Dr Frankenstein's Sport Medicine

Q: What errors in technique can contribute to patella-femoral syndrome in dancers ?

A: Many dancers develop patella-femoral syndrome due to 'rolling in' at the foot and ankles. Often this is done to compensate for a lack of turnout at the hip.

This is best treated by correcting the mechanics (through stretching and strengthening exercises), in combination with relative rest, proper warm-up, and possibly anti-inflammatory medications.
