Enamel Chip Fractures: Non-painful, non-urgent dental referral.
Exposed Dentine: Painful with exposure to heat or cold. Require urgent dental referral.
Exposed Pulp: Immediate dental referral.
Subluxed Tooth: Repositioned using firm finger pressure, splint with aluminum foil, urgent dental referral.
Tooth Avulsion: Retreive tooth, handle by the crown, rinse with NS/Milk or have athlete suck tooth clean under the tongue. Reimplant the tooth, and have immediate dental referral for spinting.
Many injuries can be prevented by following some general rules for injury prevention
Can reduce injury by wearing a mouthguard. Custom made mouthgaurds are preferred for high-risk sports.
Mouthguards may provide protection for concussion as well.
Avulsed teeth do better with faster reimplantation. Best in less than 30-60 minutes, doubtful after 2 hours.
