VRS: Member Setup



VRS members will find that the VRS software and scheduling is easy to install, and follows simple common sense. This should be no difficulty for anyone with basic computer knowledge.

  1. VRS Software is Provided in StarOffice .sdc files. Software can be run under two different applications.

      1. You may download StarOffice from Sun Microsystems at www.sun.com. Installation of StarOffice is simple, and detailed on the WebSite. You can choose "minimal installation" and you need not install java binaries. Currently StarOffice 6 is available for under $100.00 US.

      2. You may use OpenOffice.org, a version of StarOffice shipped without the proprietary add-ons. It is distributed under the guidelines of the GPL and SISSL Licencing agreements. Usually the current version of OpenOffice.org will be bundled in your software CD in both Windows and Linux Applications. Copies of GPL and SISSL Licencing are always inluded on the CD.   1. Your training software file is obtainable by one of three methods:

    1. Download your own training software from www.voltarace.com/ftp/vrs.yourname.sdc.

    2. An Email attachment usually named vrs.yourname.sdc

    3. On a CD file named vrs.yourname.sdc

      Save the document into any convenient directory. Usually /home/username/ under Unix systems or My Documents in WinX

  2. Start StarOffice or OpenOffice.org. Open yourname.sdc.

  3. Software is organized into several worksheets. Normally the worksheets are in this order:

    1. Master: The master schedule

    2. Diary: A software diary which athletes may choose to record the daily activities. This will be customized to each athlete. In this diary, user information is entered in the yellow squares.

    3. R: There may be several R sheets, which detail resistance training schedules. The Master sheet will describe the dates when the various resistance training cycles are used.

    4. Interval Template: A template which may be used to record data during interval workouts. This sheet can be copied and used as needed.

  4. Switching from between sheets is simple; at the bottom left corner of the StarOffice window, the name of all sheets is displayed in a sliding box. Simple navigate between sheets using the arrow buttons.
